Born and raised in Stockton, CA, William Jones III started playing football at the age of 7. Football was a big part of the Jones household as William’s older brother, Mychal, started playing at an early age and their father, William, Jr., spent several years coaching his sons on the Pop Warner level. Besides football, William runs track and competes in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m Relay. As much as he excelled in athletics, his parents also stressed the importance of excelling in the classroom and getting an education. With a 4.05 GPA, William looks forward to college and eventually, medical school. Outside of sports and academics, he enjoys hanging out with friends and volunteering in his community.
To William, family is most important, something he values, and never takes for granted. “I’m very fortunate. I grew up surrounded with love and support from my parents, three siblings, and my extended family,” says William who credits a great part of his success in athletics and academics from the strong foundation he has at home. “My family is my motivation to do my best in everything. I just want to make my parents proud.”
How do you successfully juggle the demands of school, practice, and games?
It’s tough, but I juggle the demands of school, practice, and games by just remembering my end goal and not going to bed until I finish my work.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
In 10 years, hopefully I will be completing my residency in pursuit of becoming a surgeon.
What are your strengths physically and mentally as a running back and what is your philosophy on discipline?
My physical strength as a running back is my speed and mentally, my strengths are my abilities to read my blocks. My philosophy on discipline is that without it, you won’t be able to be a great player.
How have you improved as an athlete from year to year?
I have improved by not only getting better as a player, but more influential as a leader and by trying to set a good example for my team.
How do you prepare for football on and off-season?
During the off season, I train with Latef Grim of Wideout City and Vince Carter at CF209 with Team Elevate. I believe that, not just in sports, but life, it’s all about constantly working hard and never being content.
What is the biggest lesson that football has taught you and how can you apply that to real life?
Football has taught me to be self-determined and focused. This will be valuable throughout my life outside of football because it will help me get through the long journey it takes to become a doctor.
What is the next step for you as a football player?
Hopefully, I will continue to play football in college, but if not, I am also fine with that. I plan to major in biochemistry on a pre-med track at a yet-to-be-determined school, and want to become an Orthopedic Surgeon.
What is the biggest lesson that you've learned from your coach this year?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned from Coach Martinez is to ‘dig deep’ to know my “why” and why I play. For me, it all goes back to wanting to be better, excel, and my desire to make my parents and my family proud.

What is your biggest regret of the season?
My biggest regret of the season is spraining my ankle and missing 4 games of my last football season.
What is your most memorable moment of the season?
My most memorable moment of the season, although not a good one, was losing my teammate Cameron Allison. To overcome this challenge, I had to turn to my teammates for support and be open about my feelings, which is something I am not normally comfortable doing.
Although this tragedy left a hole in our hearts, it made our team come together as a family. We will remember this team forever.
Is there anyone that you'd like to thank or acknowledge and why?
I would love to thank my family for being my biggest support system and always motivating me to be better.
